Esquimalt’s unique West Coast location, and its close proximity to downtown Victoria, the Victoria General Hospital, the ocean, parks, walkways and many transportation options make this an ideal retirement community. Esquimalt offers residents a vibrant lifestyle, many community events, and recreational facilities. Construction of the new Johnson Street bridge and the upgrading of main arterial roads provide easy access to downtown Victoria and surrounding communities.

The Esquimalt Official Community Plan lays out the revitalization of the existing downtown core into a small town style village. The vision of the new village core lends itself well to this project, in that it will provide all amenities within walking distance. Having the Legion as a part of the facility is an added benefit for the residents as it will provide numerous social and recreational activities. The Esquimalt Legion is an integral part of the community, and has been providing much needed services to the community and veterans for over a hundred years.

Greater Victoria is the premier retirement destination in Canada. The February 2011 edition of Senior Living Magazine talks about the rapidly increasing senior population in this province, "The seniors population in BC is increasing at almost twice the rate of the general population. Right now there are more than half a million people over the age of 65, that will increase to nearly 1.4 million people, almost a quarter of BC’s population in the next 25 years". BC Stats and CivicInfo BC state that the senior population in the Capital Regional District will increase by 119% in the next 25 years. Monimos recognizes that the demand for senior housing will outweigh the current supply, and is working now to provide for the future needs of seniors.

  • The Legion Seniors Independent Living project is a joint venture project between Monimos and the Esquimalt Legion.
